The short answer
We can usually replace a standard 40 or 50 gallon water heater the same day, and we haul the old tank away. AO Smith tank water heaters installed start at $2,575 for a 40 gallon, $2,755 for a 50 gallon and $5,259 for a 75 gallon.
Code updates a replacement usually needs
- A new ball valve
- Water hammer arrestors
- An expansion tank
- A drip pan under the tank, so a leak does not flood the house
- A drip leg on the gas line
Warranty options
AO Smith tanks come with a standard six-year warranty. You can upgrade to a ten-year warranty by installing a second anode rod, which helps protect the tank.
If you supply your own water heater, it does not come with our tank warranty. You get our limited warranty on the parts we use.
How to make your tank last longer
- Flush the tank every year.
- Change the anode rod every two to three years.
We put a yearly reminder in our system so you do not have to remember.
Tank vs. tankless with Tulsa hard water
Either system takes maintenance unless you put in a whole-house filtration system. Without one, flush your tank or tankless every year to keep scale from building up. Navien tankless units need a yearly service. We also suggest a check every couple of years for leaks or a loose vent.
