Before and after

What the customer called about
An electrician was installing a new Generac standby generator at a Tulsa home, and the gas flex line that came with the generator was too short to reach the gas line.
What our plumber found
The gap between the house gas line and the generator inlet was more than the supplied flex line could cover.
How we fixed it
We installed a 3/4-inch 90 and a gas shut-off valve, which shortened the length needed. Then we connected the flex line from the new shut-off valve to the generator, bled the air from the gas line and tested for proper operation. The fittings checked out with no issues.
What this means for your home
A standby generator needs a proper gas connection with its own shut-off. If the parts that came in the box don't fit your house, a licensed plumber can make the connection right.

Straight Answers
Can a plumber hook up the gas line for a Generac generator?
Yes. On this job we added a gas shut-off valve and fitting, connected the flex line to the generator, bled the air from the line and tested it.
What if the generator flex line is too short?
We can add fittings and a shut-off valve closer to the generator so the flex line reaches.
Does a generator gas line need its own shut-off?
On this hookup we installed a gas shut-off valve right before the flex line so the generator can be isolated.
